James O'Keefe's Project Veritas released a video Thursday in which Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI) says Hillary Clinton might use executive orders on gun control if she wins the presidency and Congress is unwilling to pass the types of laws she wants.
Earlier this week, Wikileaks posted hacked emails from the Clinton campaign, including an October 4, 2015 missive in which her press secretary says:
We are going to background reporters tonight on a few of the specific proposals she would support as President – universal background checks of course, but also closing the gun show loophole by executive order and imposing manufacturer liability.
Breitbart reports that the fundraiser O'Keefe attended undercover was held in Palo Alto, CA in August, 2016, before Wikileaks released the Clinton email. Feingold is asked if there is anything Hillary can do to advance gun control laws if she's elected and there's a Republican Congress, and replies:
“Well, there might be executive order.”
O'Keefe comments that Obama had used a few executive orders, and Feingold replies:
“He did some executive orders with the aspects of waiting periods. But what we all need is to win the Senate, have her there, and then put pressure on the House. And we might win the House.”
Other guests at the fundraiser, held by Amy Rao and Harry Plant, were disappointed that Feingold's stance on guns wasn't as extreme as theirs. Leah Russin blamed it on his Wisconsin constituents and said:
"I wanted him to be stronger. Nobody needs a frickin' handgun....He wants to get elected. He is from Wisconsin."
When O'Keefe told Rao he didn't understand why Feingold wouldn't want to ban guns, she assured him that Hillary had different plans.
“Hillary wants to shut it down. She wants to shut it down. You're never gonna get guns totally out of their hands. It's the Second Amendment, right? But Obama didn't do it. If anyone can do it, she'll do it.
If we can get guns away from everyone in this country, she’ll close the loopholes, get rid of assault weapons. She’ll get rid of being able to buy, you know, unlimited bullets. She’s going to make all that stop.”
Rao and her husband are long-time Democrat fundraisers and donors who hosted an event for President Obama earlier this year. While Clinton's disdain for gun owners and the Second Amendment is hardly a secret, plans to bypass Congress and the legislative process to do away with a fundamental right take that disdain to a new level.
